One artist has found an innovative and creative way of using his favourite fruits.
Hotel chef Takashi Itoh has been using melons and other fruits as the basis of his artworks, carving intricate designs such as swans, the Sydney Opera House and faces into the fruits' flesh, reports the Daily Mail.
The art form originates back to the Far East 700 years ago, when carved fruits were often presented to royalty. And now photographs of the unusual sculpture are becoming internet sensations.
Itoh taught himself the skill, which can take years to perfect, in just three weeks after a holiday to Thailand inspired him.
His designs take between 20 and 90 minutes to complete and are often eaten after two days.
Fruit has often been the subject of art, albeit in a more traditional form, Monet, Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin have all produced well-known still lives of fruit.
