Workplace fruit incentive ‘cheaper than gym membership’

Providing an office fruit basket could be cheaper than giving staff free gym memberships, it has been asserted.

An article on the Fresh Business Thinking website suggested the regular provision of these perishables may show a firm cares about its workforce.

This incentive could also be used to tempt new candidates and may brighten up a workspace, according to the piece.

"A healthy workforce is generally a happy one," the column said.

Organisations that decide to go ahead with this scheme may want to keep in mind that the government recommends everyone eats at least five portions of fruits and vegetables each day.

Further ways organisations can reportedly improve the wellbeing of their human resources include redecorating the office, offering a company car and printing personalised business cards for employees.

Massage treatments could also be provided on-site, allowing people to de-stress between their daily tasks.

During the current economic climate it may also be worth helping people financially – the website suggested interest-free loans could be used to help individuals purchase train season tickets.
