Office fruit deliveries ‘cost taxpayer £100k’

Office fruit deliveries are obviously rich in many ways – eating plums from the office fruit basket can provide a rich source of antioxidants, which help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

But, luckily, you don’t need to be rich to get an office fruit box, which is probably why workplaces choose to buy them.

This evidently wasn’t the case for the Labour party when it was in power, since it managed to rack up a £100,000 bill for its office fruit – which was funded by taxpayers.

Over the 13 years the party was in charge of the country, all five ministers in the Department of Health were given £8 worth of fruit every single day.

Even though the party was an advocate of the ’5-a-day’ motto, £8 would stretch much further than the recommended five portions each day.

A source close to the ministers told the Times: "We are all for healthy eating but this takes the biscuit."

However, office fruit fans, there’s no need to fear – your employers aren’t likely to spend £100,000 on your office fruit deliveries any time soon!
