Healthy diet ‘improves efficiency in the workplace’

An office fruit delivery could lead to improved efficiency and staff concentration, as a case study has found eating this food can have these results.

Unilever has revealed the results of its Fit Business year-long scheme, which was devised to "improve the fitness and wellbeing" of its staff, reports BBC News.

Changes were made to the canteens at its Merseyside and Surrey bases – including offering more fresh fruit, yoghurts and cereal – and offering support and guidance with fitness levels.

"Even some of the most cynical members of staff have signed up," the report states. "Alongside the nutrition advice, health checks and tests, staff are also being given free access to onsite gyms".

The news provider’s story mentions a number of specific individual cases, where the scheme has made a difference.

Carl Malcolm, a 50-year-old pensions department worker was "never exercising, eating a poor diet".

He took notice of his health and vowed to implement action – such as replacing his junk food mid-morning snack with a piece of fruit – according to the article.

Sean McInnon told the news gatherer that he felt in a "better mindset" after introducing a new exercise regime and diet.

The NHS suggests that including bananas with breakfast – for example on toast – can improve memory and reaction times.ADNFCR-2247-ID-19140066-ADNFCR
