Choosing a mid-afternoon snack from the office fruit box is not only good for your health, according to new research it may help boost memory as well.
A study by the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine showed that by including certain fruits in their diets, people may be able to slow - and possibly reverse - the memory loss that comes with age.
Fruits rich in polyphenol antioxidants - such as apples, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cranberries - were especially good at forestalling age-related physical and mental declines, scientists found.
Polyphenols are a natural antioxidant which help to protect cells in the body from harmful free radicals and can also reduce the risk of cancer.
It has also been suggested that they may reduce or slow certain effects of aging.
And there’s good news for anyone who also enjoys a cuppa at work - tea is another source rich in anti-aging polyphenols.
