An office fruit basket could help keep staff healthy in more ways than one – a commentator has asserted eating the fruit is "less risky" than other desktop options.
The Calgary Herald has commented eating some foods at the workstation can lead to bacteria building up on desks and in keyboards.
It cites a 2002 study conducted at the University of Arizona, which found tables and phones were home to more germs than workplace toilet seats.
However, it accepts for some, consuming their midday meal infront of a computer is part of their routine – and there are foods which pose less of a health hazard.
Fruit – along with sandwiches, nuts and pasta salads – are "less risky options", it remarks.
Image consultant Victoria Robinson comments in the article the safest way to eat while at work is to clear a space on the desk and lay down a napkin.
