A quarter of workers have seen companies cut back on refreshments such as tea, coffee and office fruit over the last year, according to new research from uSwitchforbusiness.com.
The move has left a bitter taste in the mouth for many, with less than a third of British employees thinking the company they work for is generous to staff and four in ten describing staff perks as ‘poor’.
As businesses look to shave costs, it is worth considering the value that employees place on small perks, which can far out strip the monetary cost of providing them.
With more than a third of office staff saying perks such as an office fruit box boost morale, one in ten claim cutbacks on refreshments have changed the atmosphere at work – for the worse.
Meanwhile, an anxious 19 per cent even claim cutbacks have left them feeling jittery about their employment prospects.
As well as raising spirits at work, providing an office fruit box has a wealth of heath benefits for staff, including helping to boost their vitamin intake and reducing the risk of heart disease, strokes and some cancers.
