If you suffer from sleepless nights perhaps your diet is lacking in office fruit cherries.
According to a new study, drinking tart cherry juice every day can help alleviate insomnia.
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Rochester and VA Centre of Canandaigua in the US made the discovery after conducting the pilot study to investigate the sleep habits of 15 adults.
The participants drank eight ounces of tart cherry juice twice a day for two weeks and a comparable matched juice drink for another two-week period.
A significant reduction in the severity of insomnia was reported after drinking cherry juice, with participants experiencing less sleeplessness and saving around 17 minutes of wake time after going to bed.
According to the researchers, the high content of melatonin in the cherries is likely to help moderate the body’s sleep-wake cycle.
Insomnia can also be aided by eating food that will make you calmer and less irritable.
Dietrician Sian Porter told the Daily Express that ensuring you keep hydrated can help you feel less irritable. Therefore, she suggested eating strawberries – another office fruit favourite – which are "low in calories, taste delicious in summer and also contain water."
