The ‘a-peel’ of the office fruit favourite, the banana, spans even further than you could possibly have imagined.
Most people know that taking a banana from the office fruit delivery is likely to boost your energy levels so you can beaver away throughout the day while munching on your fruit at work.
But new research has found that eating bananas from the office fruit basket can also reduce the risk of your arteries becoming blocked.
Researchers from Yanbian University in China gave 20 healthy men and women a banana and tested their blood about two hours later, reports the Daily Mail.
They found that the blood levels of bad cholesterol, which are a major cause of heart disease and atherosclerosis, were lower after this time.
Bananas also seem to reduce the risk of plaque build-up on walls of arteries too, according to the researchers.
After testing different components of bananas, the researchers found that it was the fibre in bananas that had the greatest effect on lowering cholesterol levels.
So when you’re next trying to decide what is the best office fruit to take from the fruit box, remember the health benefits that could be had by eating a banana.
