Office fruit basket treats can help in plenty of different ways. They're low in fat, which makes them a very healthy treat. Many of them, including office fruit grapes and bananas, are rich in natural sugars that are great for boosting energy.
Now, new research has found citrus fruits could have some extra benefits as well – they could help reduce the risk of becoming insulin resistant.
According to the Daily Mail, University of Nottingham researchers conducted a trial into the effects of orange juice on overweight women.
They were hoping to reduce their risk of insulin resistance – which is often known as pre-diabetes.
If this resistance goes untreated, it can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes, according to the news provider.
However, the antioxidants found in oranges and other citrus fruit are believed to have positive effects on the blood vessels – improving insulin sensitivity.
Even though there is no way of preventing diabetes, according to the eatwell.gov.uk website, people can reduce their risk by eating a healthy, balanced diet, regularly exercising and maintaining a healthy weight.
