Eating fruit can work wonders for those recovering from a marathon, it has been asserted.
Runners should consume the food – along with sports drinks and energy bars – straight after a race, according to the LA Times.
"[Participants] need a recovery plan. Marathon veterans recommend eating carbs that can be digested easily," the article suggested.
The newspaper commented in the wake of the LA Marathon, which took place yesterday (May 25th).
In particular, bananas are known for being good at replenishing energy stores after strenuous exercise.
Earlier this year, the Metro newspaper advised eating fruit before a marathon, as it tops up the body’s glycogen content.
In its guide to sports and fitness nutrition, the Food Standards Agency also recommended consuming fruit for these reasons, along with wholegrain bread and cereal.
Eating a "healthy balanced diet" of a wide range of foods is highlighted, as this provides all the nutrients needed for activity.
