There's been lots of news lately about how to combat heart disease and office fruit can help you out.
Take plums from the office fruit basket, for example, they contain antioxidants which help fight damage free radicals in the body inflict on cells, which increases the risk of heart disease.
Now, doctors have said following a new diet could cut the risk of heart disease by almost 20 per cent.
The Dash diet – Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension – helps lower blood pressure and reduces the levels of bad cholesterol in the body, according to the American Heart Association which recommends the plan.
It is very rich in fruit and veg, as well as suggesting people opt for low-fat dairy products, whole grains, nuts, poultry and fish.
Fatty foods, sweet treats, red meat and sugary drinks should be avoided under the diet advice.
Dr Marilyn Glenville, a nutritionist, said: "Cholesterol causes a problem when it oxidises in the body and the antioxidants in fruits and vegetables prevent that from happening."
An added bonus of eating fruit at work, such as office fruit plums, is that they help preserve memory function, according to the Produce for Better Health Foundation.
