The trend for grow your own has been becoming increasingly popular in recent years and new figures show that a growing number of people are now hoping to plant their own fruit trees.
Figures from T&M UK show that fruit tree sales have increased by seven per cent in the past year.
“Over the past 12 months, sales of fruit trees as a percentage of all fruit sales have increased by seven per cent, now accounting for 25 per cent of all fruit sales,” the firm’s direct marketing manager Vicky Ager told Horticultural Week.
“This is primarily down to the introduction of more patio and family trees into the range.”
However, tending to and maintaining a fruit tree takes a lot of effort and to some it may seem like too much work to get their five a day.
Snacking on a tasty apple or pear from the office fruit delivery is one way to get a daily dose of vitamins and minerals if people don’t have green fingers of their own.
