Fruit could cut cancer risk, claim researchers

Office fruit could help to reduce employees cancer risk, according to new research.

Two leading cancer scientists believe that they have found another benefit of eating office fruit, which is believed to boost the body’s natural defences.

Eaten as part of a preventative diet, fruit and vegetables are one of the best means of cancer prevention, according to the head of the Department of Gastroenterology at Policinico di Monza in Italy, professor Attilio Giacosa.

Oranges are thought to be particularly beneficial, alongside vegetables such as broccoli and brussel sprouts.

Professor Giacosa explained: "Case-control studies have irrefutably demonstrated a protective role of fruits and vegetables against many types of cancer in diverse social, environmental, geographic situations, especially for tumours of the lung, oral cavity, oesophagus, stomach, and intestine."

Meanwhile, researchers from the Columbia University recently claimed that adopting a Mediterranean diet, enhanced with regional fruit and vegetables, could help to lower the risk of brain damage.
