Eat office fruit not World Cup BBQs

You’re probably unlikely to heed this advice, but maybe you should head to the office fruit basket instead of eating BBQ food during the World Cup.

One barbecue meal could double your daily maximum intake of salt, a new survey by the Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) has found.

Some products that people put on their burgers and sausages, such as sauces and cheese slices, contain even more salt than seawater.

"Having a barbecue during the World Cup is great fun, but there is no need to be eating dangerous levels of salt at the same time," said CASH campaign manager and nutritionist Katharine Jenner.

"It is important to think about how much you really eat in a barbecue, and be on the lookout for lower salt alternatives."

If you can’t resist the temptation of BBQ food during the football tournament, the best way to counter the overindulgence is through eating office fruit.

Taking figs from the office fruit delivery will help aid your body’s digestion as they are a great source of dietary fibre, so you’re unlikely to feel stuffed for too long.
